This is a geyser in Iceland that explodes every 10 minutes or so. More than one geyser exists on this site, as well as some hot pools bubbling out of the ground. The beauty of this photo is that I managed to take it before digital cameras were good enough (efficient and cost effective) to buy. I made two attempts at capturing this photo. When I got home and had the film developed (yes people, film is still enjoyable cause of the anticipation of what you've actually captured), I realized that I had snapped the geyser just a microsecond before it goes off. To have captured not only the concave bubble but also the very tip of the water just starting to explode makes this a more magical and breathtaking photo than I was expecting. This geyser explodes to about 75 feet. If your interested in looking at the full explosion, please check out the photos from Iceland under the countries portion of the photos.
I'd like to tell you about one of my favorite tropical resorts: Atlantis. It's the ultimate adult playground. One cool feature is an underground walkthrough aquarium exhibit called The Dig, which is unmatched in the world. I actually walked through and took streaming video, because it was so captivating. It took me 15 minutes to capture all of it. However, this is not the only breathtaking aquarium on the property. The tank that is under the restaurant bar to the left of this photo is also very captivating and very otherworldly. To see various sharks and fish through glass walls without feeling like they’re caged and you’re at an underwater zoo is worth the time.
Let's not forget the water rides! Oh my... Sure is fun to climb a 90-foot pyramid and then slide down its side in a tube. There are 2 high speed flumes and one slow inner tube tunnel down the pyramid. My favorite is the slow tube ride while slowly floating by through this shark tank with any number of sharks swimming close to you. To watch fellow guests go whizzing by you in the fast flume is surreal. I actually had a shark just hanging out and catching zzz-s on top of the safety glass cage when I went through. Beyond the 3 flumes on the pyramid is so much more. The lazy river goes through a cave with water pouring out in through random holes, rolling gently by the rock climbing wall, ending on one of the rides. While you’re casually drifting along, you spin around to see the beautiful white sand coastline of Paradise Island.
I recommend staying in the Hibiscus Villas to take you beyond the massive towers. Private luxury-suite-feel beats the classic and artful hotel design. With rope bridges you can bounce along on to waterfalls you can swim under, this is truly a resort worth the hype and the money.
I have explored 76 countries, no hand holding, no tour guides just a drive to see, smell, taste, experience, and enjoy the earth. I have been on Reality Television and spend much of my time giving back to the community. From a unique perspective of sports, adventure and travel.
